FAQs

It is recommended to fill very large gaps using smaller pieces of the wood itself with the help of a carpenter. Small cracks / holes can be filled by using polyester putty or multipurpose sealants.
Red oxide primer is a protective coating applied on ferrous metal surfaces to prevent them from rusting and corroding due to exposure to the elements. It helps increase the life of the metal and the durability of the final topcoat.
Wall Putty is a well-designed mix of white cement with fine fillers and polymer, which can be easily applied on masonry walls to fill all unevenness and undulations on the wall to give a smooth crack free surface, ready for applying Paint.Application of only white cement will form a very thin layer and not give filling on walls. It can at times lead to cracks also.
Application of putty on exterior walls is not necessary. However, if one desires a smooth even finish on exterior walls, two coats of Indigo Polymer putty can be used followed by Exterior wall primer & a topcoat of your choice.
In simple terms there are two types of putty. Acrylic putty and powder-based putty. Powder-based wall putty consists of white cement mixed with polymers and minerals. As it is white cement-based, it can be used on interior and exterior walls for its powerful binding capabilities.Acrylic wall putty is a putty with smooth paste-like consistency and based on acrylics. It is generally recommended for interiors.

If the previous coating is in good condition and requires no levelling, then putty is not required for repainting.

However, in cases where the previous coating has deteriorated leaving behind uneven surface, or in order to fill nail holes and small cracks, putty will be required.

Primers are designed to improve adhesion and bind the surface. It cannot withstand the attack of harsh elements. If you don’t apply a coat of paint over the wall primer, it will most likely deteriorate and turn into a chalk-like powder.

The role of the putty is to smoothen / level; the surface and it is essentially an undercoat. It should under all circumstances be over coated using a primer, followed by two-three coats of emulsion.

Ideally puttied surfaces must be overcoated within 5-7 days and not left exposed.

It is not recommended to add colour to putty.

Yes. If acrylic wall putty is being used then a primer coat is recommended before and after application of the putty. In case of cement-based putties or Polymer putty a coat of primer is recommended after application of the putty. The coat of primer helps in binding the putty to the wall.
