Flipping over to re-paint your house has never been an easy affair. Scraping the old paint, smoothening rough patches, cleaning and trimming the slides and getting rid of old paint on dry surfaces can be a tedious task. Let us help you flip over like a pro!

Budgets

There’s always a tussle between good-looking (read as good-looking cheap paint) and practical (read as expensive but logically long-lasting) colors. Before you start flipping,  it would be a good idea to expand your budget a bit. Better quality paints are always on the slightly steeper side. On the flip side, literally, they make for long-lasting and better coverage. If you’re seriously thinking of flipping, then invest a bit more. Paints are immediate attention seekers, so avoid the stingy look!

Scrape over

Before you begin with the flipping, remember to get the old paint off completely. Even if you are hiring help, make sure that you supervise it to the last detail. Sand paper and scrape can help you get rid of the very last coat. Generally dry surfaces take longer to soak up the colour, so be patient.

Nooks and corners

Check for damage done to every corner of the area to be painted. Weather, wear and tear, kids and damage almost always make the corners either damp or too worn out to paint. Before you get started, make sure these are repaired and are good to go. Trimming the edges, replacing it with a metal surface or wood are some great quick-fixes.

Premier primer

Almost all paint jobs involve a primer. And for a good reason! Pests, repellents, other inhabitants of the pest community always stay away from the primer stench. Besides, primers today are made after a lot of technological research. Trust a brand that’s put in years of effort in giving you a good product. And before you wield the paint, primer it!

Paint in large quantities

After you have decided the colour, make sure that you have several cans so that you don’t run out of colour. Often some paints can get you to the last drum in a jiffy as they dry up very fast.  More paint will help you complete the task faster and will get covered with ease. Some fast- moving colours get exhausted pretty soon; avoid contrasting colors if you hadn’t planned this.

Painting your exterior

If you have taken up the exhaustive task of flipping over and painting your house, then be sure to start from the top, farthest corner to the lowest space. It’s easier going from top to bottom. It gives an even finish and you are sure not to mess around too much.

Basics

Although self-explanatory, there are a few things that get missed before you start painting: the weather, for instance! Observe the time when you seek to paint or get the exteriors painted. Rains, festivals and weather patterns may play truant in your plan. Plan your task before hand and keep a buffer of a few days. An exterior paint job may require more days to cover especially if you have staircases or a large porch to cover. Get all your stuff before the actual execution. This includes brushes, roller swabs and paint tubs. If you must paint it yourself, be aware that paints left open after a coat completed can dry off the expensive colour. Seal all drums and boxes after the day’s work. Speak to your hardware guy for additional finishes and textures available in the market. Since you have worked hard, you may want to execute a new look altogether!
