How to paint a room with more than one colour

How to Paint a Room with More Than One Colour?

Selecting paint colours for your home walls can be quite a daunting task. While it may be overwhelming to select from the shade card with endless colour options, familiarizing with basic colour concepts will help find the right colour. The colour shade card contains warm tones and cool tones throughout the palette. Warm tones include reds, oranges, and yellows. These hues are lively, mischievous, and vivacious. Red, the warmest among the warm tones is considered as the most passionate of all colours. Orange, the colour of conversation is used in kitchens and dining areas where the family gathers at least once during the day. Yellow, a bright and jovial colour can liven up the dullest of rooms.

Cool tones are the opposite of warm tones that motivate leisure and meditation. They include greens, blues, indigos, and purples. Green, the colour of nature is a calming cool hue and is great for bedrooms and bathrooms. Blue, the colour of the ocean is apt for spas and common spaces. Purple and indigo are spiritual, thoughtful, and great for meditation rooms. White represents purity, peace, and intellect. When used in proportion with other elements in the room, this hue is great for office spaces and areas where one would want to be left alone. Blacks and browns are the grounding colours used in various shades throughout the home such as furniture or upholstery.

Paint A Room With More Than One Colour

Using dark and light shades of colour in a room-in-called a monochromatic paint scheme. This easy to achieve look is one of the most comfortable and relaxing paint schemes that can be used in a room. To do so, a combination of three colours is used: a dark, a medium, and a light colour; or perhaps a light colour and two medium colour shades, depending on the owner’s taste. The aesthetics of the room determines the combination. If the room is well lit, stick to lighter shades on all the walls; or if the room is dimly lit, one may cozy it up and enhance it with darker colours on the walls. The light colour can be used on the laminates and ceilings.

Another way that dark and light colours can be used in a room is by creating some corrections: such as a tall ceiling can be painted with a darker shade to give it an illusion of being lower. One of the best solutions to give a small space a feel of a bigger illusion is to paint it entirely white from the floor to the ceiling. However, who would want to live in a cold and uninviting white cube? Therefore, one of the easiest ways to add depth to a room is to use more than one shade of the same colour. It does not have to be a drastically diverse shade; subtlety is the best way forward. Stay firmly within the cool palette and use just a couple of shades, too many and it will feel excessively busy. Painting the sidewalls of a narrow room in a paler hue than the end wall will open up the space and give it a squarer feel. However, it’s not just colour that makes a big difference while making small spaces feel bigger. It is also the furniture. Good, fuss-free, and clean lines on the furniture are an effective choice than a fussy complicated design.

Whether one’s style is classic or contemporary, by using these simple principles, one would never feel like stepping out of their dream home. Let the luck and charm of the soothing colours sway you with their healing effect and the inviting aura of these vibrant hues make you say, “Home Sweet Home”.
